Né à Toulouse en 1946 d'un père exilé de la guerre civile espagnole et d'une mère infirmière, Michel Batlle forge son identité artistique entre engagement et observation.

Enfant, il accompagne sa mère en service de radiologie : fasciné par les transparences du corps, il grave ses premières visions à l'aide d'une plume à vaccins. Ce choc visuel donnera naissance, dès 1966, à la « psychophysiographie », une exploration singulière des liens graphiques entre le corps et l'esprit. Artiste pluridisciplinaire, il s'affranchit rapidement des courants classiques pour imposer une figuration puissante.

En 1981, il fonde la revue « Axe Sud » et ouvre une galerie associative à Toulouse, où il expose pour la première fois des artistes émergents tels que Miquel Barceló et Jaume Plensa. Proche de Ben Vautier, son parcours est jalonné de rencontres avec des figures majeures de l'art contemporain : Agnès Varda, Christo, Keith Haring, Daniel Spoerri ou encore Yayoi Kusama.

De la peinture monumentale à l'art digital, Michel Batlle continue aujourd'hui de déconstruire le visage et la figure humaine dans son atelier toulousain.

Born in Toulouse in 1946 to a father exiled by the Spanish Civil War and a mother who worked as a nurse, Michel Batlle forged his artistic identity between engagement and observation.

As a child, he accompanied his mother to the radiology department, where he became fascinated by the transparencies of the human body. Using a vaccination stylus, he engraved his first visions — a visual shock that, from 1966 onwards, gave rise to "Psychophysiography," a singular exploration of the graphic links between body and mind. A multidisciplinary artist, he quickly broke away from classical movements to assert a powerful figurative language.

In 1981, he founded the magazine Axe Sud and opened an artist-run gallery in Toulouse, where he exhibited emerging artists such as Miquel Barceló and Jaume Plensa early in their careers. Close to Ben Vautier, his path was shaped by encounters with major figures of contemporary art, including Agnès Varda, Christo, Keith Haring, Daniel Spoerri, and Yayoi Kusama.

From monumental painting to digital art, Michel Batlle continues today, in his Toulouse studio, to deconstruct the face and the human figure.

1946年、フランス南西部トゥールーズ生まれ。スペイン内戦を逃れた父と看護師の母のもとで育ち、社会への眼差しと鋭い観察力を養う。

幼少期、放射線科に勤務する母に付き添って病院を訪れた経験から、X線写真が映し出す人体の内部世界に強い衝撃を受ける。この原体験は、1960年代半ばに彼が提唱した「サイコフィジオグラフィー（Psychophysiographie）」へと結実した。それは、身体と精神のあいだに存在する図像的な結びつきを探求する独自の試みで、以後の創作の根幹を成している。

1981年にはトゥールーズで美術雑誌『Axe Sud（南の軸）』を創刊し、ギャラリーを設立。ミケル・バルセロやジャウメ・プレンサをいち早く紹介するなど、南仏における現代美術シーンの重要な推進役を担った。また、ベン・ヴォーティエとの長年の交流をはじめ、アニエス・ヴァルダ、クリスト、キース・ヘリング、ダニエル・スポエッリ、草間彌生らとの出会いを通じて、その芸術的視野を広げていった。

巨大な絵画からデジタルアートに至るまで、半世紀以上にわたり一貫して人間存在を問い続けるミシェル・バトルは、現在もトゥールーズのアトリエで「顔」と「身体」を主題に、解体と再構築の創作を続けている。
